Trash Removal
STREET-SIDE PICKUP
Springfield has a citywide trash fee for weekly street-side collection services. Currently, the trash fee is $80 per trash container. Discounts are available, and residents may dispute their fee.

See this city page for a FAQ on the trash fee.

RECYCLING
The City is currently expanding its Single Stream recycling program. Single stream eliminates the two-bin system. Residents will now place all of their paper, glass and bottle recyclables into a single trash container (colored blue). Street-side pickup remains on the regular recycling schedule.

The City will distribute the new recycling containers when Single Stream is introduced to each neighborhood. Residents do not need to be home when the containers are dropped off.

BULK PICKUP
For pickup of bulk trash pickup items such as bed frames, mattresses, refrigerators, televisions, etc., residents must contact the Springfield Department of Public Works in advance, at 787-6260 or 311.

Each bulk item must have a Bullk Sticker affixed to it. The fee for a bulk sticker is $8.00. Stickers may be purcahsed at the City Cerk's office at City Hall, or at any Big Y supermarket in Springfield, East Longmeadow, Ludlow, Longmeadow or West Springfield.

HAZARDOUS WASTE
Hazardous waste should be brought to the City DPW for disposal. Directions to the depot are located on this City webpage (under "How Do I Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste?").

Examples of household hazardous waste include: insecticides, household cleabers, automobile fluids and oil, fertilizer, pool chemicals, and batteries.

For more information on hazardous waste disposal and reducing risks to exposure, visit the City website here.
