"Love Where You Live"

Litter, graffiti, unkempt streets, roads, blocks and parks are far more than just unsightly; these are symptoms of uncaring behavior and a wake-up call for citizens who are concerned about their community's quality of life. Keep Springfield Beautiful needs your help in answering that call! This spring, your group can make a visible difference in Springfield by joining us for the Massachusetts Great American Cleanup.

Established by Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the nation's premier litter prevention and education organization, in partnership with state and local affiliates such as ours, the Great American Cleanup is our country's largest annual cleanup, beautification and community improvement program. Each year, millions of volunteers in over 15,000 communities across the country take part in this program. This program provides a high-profile platform for activities that meet specific local needs, including recycling litter cleanups, litter prevention education, recycling drives, graffiti removal, beautification and community improvement projects, park renewals, clothes collection programs, river, lake and seashore cleanups, etc.

This year, we expect more than two million volunteers to participate in the Great American Cleanup nationwide. Here in Springfield, Keep Springfield Beautiful is seeking 3500 volunteers for our Great American Cleanup activities, which will take place Saturday, May 2, 2009, from 8am - 1:00pm and there are several ways in which your group can participate:

Click here to obtain volunteer registration forms.

Join other volunteer groups for the large-scale cleanup effort being planned for Saturday, May 2, 2009, during the day we will remove trash from dump sites, streets and remove graffiti from our 17 neighborhoods in the city.

To register your group in this year's Great American Cleanup, call Keep Springfield Beautiful at 413-205-1277 or return the registration form to us by mail. by April 30, 2009. Complimentary trash bags and program banners will be available for litter cleanups. We look forward to speaking with you shortly about joining this vital effort. Meanwhile, I can be reached at 413-205-1277. We hope you'll join us in making Springfield clean and beautiful this spring!

Please consider donating: Citywide cleanup is a big operation, and with that comes equally large expenses.Volunteers are terrific and always welcome, but if we don't have the supplies we need to properly equip them, the entire operation suffers. If you would like to contribute a tax-deductable donation to Keep Springfield Beautiful, please download, print out, and mail this linked form (rtf). If your company can supply equipment or refreshments to help people in the field, please contact me at 413-205-1277, or via email, melvinspeaks@msn.com.
